The new Tony Thompson Trio is comprised of jazz organ, guitar and drums, the classic organ trio. This trio was recorded by Eric Von of Stratosphere Records. The mood for this recording could be thought of as ‘Ballad and Blues’ like so many bands in the late 5o's and early 60's. There are 3 original tunes penned by Thompson:Blues For Debbie, Eloise in Violet, and Blue Saphire. The concept for this recording was inspired by all of the jazz organ trios that have gone before such as those with Jimmy Smith, Don Patterson, Tony Monaco, Joey Defrancesco, Richard Grove Holmes etc. To hear this new trio click on this link:

https://untd.io/m/tonythompson
Tony Thompsontag:tonymanmusic.com,2005:Post/73176432023-12-11T12:17:39-05:002023-12-11T12:17:40-05:00New Release as of October 15, 2023
A new release featuring Tony Thompson playing jazz organ.
Tony Thompson is playing solo piano tonight at Artspace downtown Raleigh. Artspace is a big gallery and workspace for many area visual artists. It is located at 200 North Davie St., Raleigh. Artspace opens its doors tonight as part of Raleigh's
Gallery Walk which occurs on the first Friday of each month. Admission is free and it is open to the public. People of all ages stroll through the gallery space and studios to view the art installations. Jazz music will accompany this scene tonight. There is a grand piano on the second floor of the building at the top of the stair case. Music is carried aloft by this loft like space . Tonight a wide variety of jazz and jazz blues, ballads and original compositions by Tony Thompson will come from that piano. Music will feature some blues forms, some modal jazz, and
some arrangements of time tested
ballads. Much of the music is inspired by the jazz piano tradition of the 50s and 60s. Many of the tunes would fall withing the category of what musicologist
Alec Wilder termed American Popular Song which means they were penned between 1920 and 1950.

had me join him for many many
festivals and jazz spots all over the southeast. I have many new friends as of the end of this year and I look with pleasure on an unprecedented 2011 if it is anything like 2010!!!

The benefit concert on April 11th was a smashing success with stellar attendance! Donations will go to the Medical Alliance of Raleigh. Thanks to all the people who made this possible, the Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian community, 'A Touch of Brass' who opened the show under the direction of Chris Peffley, and special thanks to Marie Wessles who coordinated and planned the event. It seems almost impossible to describe the joy of playing the new Fazioli concert grand piano for the show.
This piano is handmade in Italy and brought to us by Ruggero Piano in Raleigh. The piano has a very light touch compared to a Steinway or Baldwin concert grand. It has a singing quality throughout the entire 88 keys.
There is an immediacy about the touch.....the synergy between touch and sound makes this piano a dream to play. This instrument is a brilliant addition not only to the church but to the community.

It is an honor to be working with vocalist Carolyn Mitchell, an incredible artist and a good person.
She has been a guest with me band recently and turned a lot of heads through her magnificent voice and shear force of presence. Look for big things to come from Carolyn in the near future. For more information about my full Band with guests
Carolyn Mitchell and Bobby Moody on Sax please contact me. Free
demos are available.
